Tracking Fury Through Spell Viewing

I’m trying to track an opponent’s use of fury by looking at forms he’s summoning and spells he’s casting. So I have a few questions that show just how much of a beginner I am!

Is it only the person casting and/or the owner of a region where a spell was cast who can see the spell in the region information part of the screen? For example: “F35 Pulse Probe cast by Macatak.” If I am not adjacent to a region where a Pulse Probe or some similar spell was cast, should I be able to see it?

If I am not able to see these spells in the region information screen, are there sometimes clues in the graphic picture of the region? For example, maybe I can’t see a Slappy Bomb cast or by who in the region information screen…but if the picture of the region shows that funky pink ring thing with tendrils of white light stretching away from it instead of the form that is resident in the region, is it a safe bet that a Slappy Bomb is in effect?

Thanks very much for your help.

Only if you own the region or an adjacent region will you see the full information about a spell cast, like "F35 Pulse Probe cast by Macatak". There are still some spells, like NeuralImplant and Fractal Hooka (all the Psylicides except Slappy Bomb), that will never show up for anyone but the spell caster. If there are spells being cast on another border, you might want to talk to that player and see if they are willing to share information with you. After all, they are probably an enemy of your enemy as well.

The only spell I know of that you can see in effect from a distance is Slappy Bomb, with the regional icon you describe. I have seen instances where the icon did not show up, but it usually does. The only other method would be to check out battle reports. Many spells will show up there, allowing you to see what spell was cast, and by who. It will not tell you how much they bid on it however.

Keep in mind that you will never see any spell that your opponent cast that was outbid. You can sometimes guess when this happens, as he will have fury missing still. Also, when tracking form summoning, keep in mind that they do not need to fully fuel a form. Try using the form's conjour cost first in your calculations, and their fuel cost after all other know factors are in. For example, if your opponent just conjoured and summoned a demon, subtracting 105 from the amount the spent might throw off your cacluations if it was not fully fueled. Try subtracting 75 first, then all other known spells. If you are left with 30 missing fury, it is a pretty good bet the demon is fully fueled. If you are left with only 20 fury, the demon probably only has 10 fuel, and you didn't get messed up by being 10 fury off on your other calcuations.

Also, you will not see any gifts given to them by other players in the new fury number. Any fury they gifted out will simply be missing as well. You can use the Game info button in the lobby for the game to help you figure out if gifts were involved. On rare occasion, it might help you figure out what spells were cast as well. Keep in mind that if they have not picked a religion yet, they could not have given or recieved fury gifts.

Tracking an opponent's use of fury can be very useful:
  • Figuring out what kinds of spells they like to use, and how much or little they like to overbid them for.
  • Figuring out if there are any forms, temples or forts being hidden.
  • Figuring out if they have a form conjoured but not summoned, ready to be summoned later for the cost of fuel only.

I find it one of the most enjoyable things in Evernight. Nothing quite like the feeling of figuring out everything your opponent spent their fury on, especially if you spoil a surprize in the process ;-) -Sputnik
